Architectural Information Disclaimer

The limits of the architectural and material information published on this site, and why it cannot replace project-specific advice from a licensed professional.

General information only

This site provides general architectural and material information. It is not a substitute for project-specific advice from a licensed architect, engineer or your local building authority, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind.

Regulations and approvals vary

Building codes, fire regulations, structural requirements, product approvals and accepted construction practice differ by country, region and municipality, and frequently by building height, occupancy class and exposure. A material, assembly or dimension that is standard practice in one jurisdiction may be non-compliant in another.

Verify any material, assembly, figure or dimension described here against the regulations and product approvals applicable to your own project, in their current version, before relying on it.

Structural, fire and life-safety matters

Nothing on this site should be used to determine structural adequacy, fire performance, means of escape, or any other life-safety requirement. Those determinations require a qualified professional assessing your specific building, its use and its context.

Performance figures

Where we publish performance figures, they are drawn from published standards or manufacturer data and are stated with their test conditions where those are known. Test conditions are not site conditions. A figure measured on an isolated specimen does not predict the behaviour of an assembly in a real wall, and manufacturers revise their data.

Products and manufacturers

We do not sell, distribute, install or endorse building products. Naming a manufacturer’s technical data sheet as a source is a citation, not a recommendation, and does not indicate any commercial relationship.

No warranty
